If "tree resin" is your actual item of interest, you're in the wrong aisle. But from a plastic-packaging perspective, a natural resin can't substitute for PET or PP resin in an injection mold. That comparison should end at the door.
Will silicone stick to plastic? Yes, no, and it depends
This is the part of the search string where a scenario-based answer actually helps. There is no reliable "yes" or "no" to "will silicone stick to plastic?" because plastic is not one material.
Scenario A: The plastic is PP or PE
Polypropylene and polyethylene are low-surface-energy plastics. Their surfaces are nonpolar and chemically slippery. If the line runs at $5,000 per hour, two weeks is a number no one wants to say out loud. The savings disappear quickly.
I'd argue that total cost of ownership (i.e., the price of the material plus testing, risk, scrap, and time) is the only honest way to compare packaging options. That's not a slogan from a marketing deck. It's the framework I use when I'm triaging a rush order and someone asks me whether switching to a cheaper supplier is a good idea.
Sometimes the switch makes sense. The decision needs to be based on the whole cost picture, not the unit-price line.
